Lately, I’ve been reading about the world of micro-adventures—those small but mighty experiences that give you a break from the everyday. They might push you out of your comfort zone just a little, but that’s part of the magic. A micro-adventure can boost your confidence, re-energise your creativity, and help you feel more motivated—especially if you’re facing a creative block.
The beauty of micro-adventures is that they can be anything from a 10-minute challenge to a whole day doing something completely different. It could be as simple as using a new medium for your art or trying something you never imagined doing.
I’ve put together a few ideas to inspire your own summer micro-adventures. These aren’t tasks to tick off—they're gentle prompts to help you break the routine and see things from a new angle.
Hope you find some inspiration! Tracy xx
Take Your Sketchbook for a Walk
If you’ve never taken your creativity for a walk, now’s the time. Step away from your usual workspace, grab a sketchbook and your favourite medium, and head out with no expectations. Walk just five minutes from your home or studio, pause, and spend a few minutes making marks or jotting down words. The goal isn’t to create a masterpiece—it’s to notice something new and engage with your surroundings.
Wellbeing benefit: Encourages mindfulness and present-moment awareness, which can reduce stress and help calm a busy mind.
Visit a Local Gallery or Museum
We often overlook the treasures close to home. While it's exciting to explore galleries and museums on holiday, there’s likely plenty to discover nearby too. Pick a place you haven’t visited in a while (or ever!) and take your time wandering through the exhibits. It’s a perfect micro-adventure for a rainy day, and a great way to spark inspiration.
Tip: You can search online or ask at your local library to find nearby museums and galleries.
Wellbeing benefit: Stimulates curiosity and mental engagement, helping to shift mental focus and lift your mood through cultural connection.
Try Something Outdoors
Get your adrenaline flowing and your body moving with an outdoor activity. Whether it’s taking a dip in a local river, abseiling into a cave, joining an outdoor yoga class, or trying a SUP (stand-up paddleboard) lesson, getting outside can shake off creative cobwebs and boost your mood.

Experience a Sound Bath… Underground
Here at Thrive Place, we’re big believers in the healing power of sound. While sound baths are usually held in peaceful indoor studios, this summer you can experience something truly unique: a sound bath deep beneath the earth.
Lauren (aka Fellbeing) is hosting a series of underground sound baths in the awe-inspiring setting of Ingleborough Cave. It’s a chance to unwind, reconnect, and soak up some subterranean serenity.
Book your place: Fellbeing
Wellbeing benefit: Deep relaxation and nervous system reset—sound therapy can lower anxiety, improve sleep quality, and create a profound sense of calm.
Whatever form your micro-adventure takes, let it be playful, curious, and just a little bold. You don’t have to travel far or spend a lot—just shift your perspective and see what new energy it brings.
